  1. This means that your Expected Family Contribution for that particular award year is $9. Which means that as far as Pell Grant is concerned you are Eligible for the full award minus $9. It also means you are eligible for need based funding. You have to decide which school you which to attend some will mean you will have to pay out of pocket which could vary from a little to a lot depending on which school you decided to go to. I always make sure that my students know up front how much it will cost and what they will have to pay out of pocket. I do not like last minute surprises and I do not do it to my students. If their Financial Aid status changes I am quick to contact my students and give them the heads up, not all Financial Aid advisors do that but I do. I hope this helps and good luck oh and one last piece of advice..Always check with your financial aid office. If a school you want to attend says they will only give you the price after you have signed a piece of paper, tell them no thank you and leave they are only in it for the money and not for your benefit. remember to always ask yourself if you are earning a degree or buying a brand name?

  2. No. I have a EFC of 0, and they're definitely making me pay at least a few thousand for college.

The measurement is not in dollars. If you look at the website where you got that information, they'll explain what that number means.

  3. About that much, yeah.

  4. Yeah I think so

  5. That's what the Federal Government thinks you are able to pay.

This does not mean that your college agrees. They can';t give every person a free boat who can't afford it although they should. You will most likely if you have no good scholarships  end up paying a good amount.

    =)

  7. It means that your application has been selected for verification (because of the * asterisk) and you will have to provide documents to the college in order for your need to be determined.  Certain FAFSAs are selected randomly for verification, but others are selected because of inconsistent data on the fafsa.

Don't listen to others about you getting the full grant amounts until you go through the verification process first.  You may have made a mistake on the application.  The school will check as to what you did wrong and correct it if needed.

    Good luck.
