but only after I pick the ripened fruit and it sits on the counter for a day. It is almost immediate and the little black spots are all over them. I have read about Blossom end rot but it is not on just the bottom. I notice the spots slightly when they are still on the plant but they do not get dark and black till after I pick. I have 4 other plants (German Johnsons) and these are fine. No black spots. Any clue what is happening to this variety. My friend has the same kind with no spots.

The tomatoes look pretty and are really nice and red btu I am scared (and grossed out) to eat them.

Any advise would be super.

  1. It almost sounds like the disease called Anthracnose. This will produce sunken spots up to a 1/2" in diameter. Your best bet is to check out the universities of Purdue, Cornell, and Florida. They all have great web sites dealing with veggies. You may also try contacting your local Co-op to talk to a master gardener. Good luck.

  2. maybe a fungus? next year try planting marigolds around them (they help keep pests and away) I plant them around my entire garden and dont have any problems.
