My Family Say I Can Sing But When I Record My Voice It Sounds Awful :S

They are just being nice, the truth is you can't sing.

The quality of the recorder might be bad or it might be that your family just doesn't want to hurt your feelings. If you want to know the truth ask someone that will tell you how you really sing.

Friends and family are rarely very objective, but the tape NEVER lies.  The   real question is are you just picking up on mistakes that no one else would notice, or do you REALLY sound awful.

Every time I go in the studio, I hear all kinds of mistakes on playback, but then the band will say "Great take".  Sometimes it's hard to be objective about your OWN playing.

The recorder doesnt really work then.. i have the same problem. it just makes ur voice sound like a baby, when in real life, ur voice is a beutiful sound. maybe if u tried to sing in front of ppl who live by u (and u trust ) they will tell u how u sing

That happens to me to, there is probably different things going on.

A) Maybe they are just being nice.

B) What sometimes happens your voice sounds different when you record it than in real life.

B happens to me sometimes.

You probably can sing..It depends on

the type of recorder you are using

if  it inst good quality..it may make your

voice sound a bit different, then how it sounds

when it isn't  being played back from a  device.

If you think you can't sing and your family is just being nice..

ask a friend that isn't afraid to tell the truth,.

or get professionally judged, like auditioning or something.

you can also make a youtube video and get people to rate

your singing...though doing that may make your voice sound

different ..depending on the quality if your PC CAMERA.

have your singing friends evaluate your voice and tell them they must be honest and then be prepared to receive criticism. That said, be advised there are many who cannot sing (i am one) and who cannot dance, either (i am one) or draw (me) or do much of anything, so enjoy what talent you have!

There is no way for me to know if you are any good. We are usually our most severe critic.

If you think your voice character is bad, that is very correctable, and maybe even an advantage depending on what you type of music you like to sing.

If you are out of tune, then you have some hard work ahead of you.

Most important  is do you enjoy singing?

If you are hoping to go professional, you need to gey lots of opinions.

Get involved in the local groups. Consider back up singing etc.

I'm a singer and everyone tells me i'm good even if i don't know them so but all your voice needs is a bit of mixing. It WILL sound better. is it always friends and family??? because then you might but i would suggest that you sing to a complete stranger and see what they say.
