It is a Steven's Model 940 12 Guage Shotgun made by the Savage Company, 22 inches long and has Annie Oakley carved on it. Can anyone tell me what age/value of the Gun is or a website I can find this information. The sites I looked at all wanted money to purchase info????

  1. Check here for value at no cost.*..> gunbroker .com, auctionarms.com, gunsamerica.com.....

  2. The 940 was made in the 60s for certain.  It may have carried over from the 50s.  Your serial number would be needed to place the production date.  These were inexpensive single shot guns.  Most are not worth much more than $100.

Hopefully 22 inches is the barrel length and not the total length or it is a felony to possess without it being properly registered in the NFA and it being transferred to you with the tax stamp for it.

  3. When you say 22 inches long, do you mean the barrel length or overall length? If the shotgun is under 27 inches in total length you have a problem.

I would suggest going to your local library and looking it up in the latest "Blue Book of Gun Values" as well. Another free resource.

** I just checked my inventory, it appears I have the exact same shotgun. Do me a favor and pull down on the front forearm grip and tell me what happens. If you get a surprise, then I will tell you that you are better off trying to keep this one than selling it. If not, then you could get about $90 out of it.

  4. The savage arms company website has a contact link in the upper right corner of the main page. Send them a note and ask. You would be surprised at how helpful they might be!
