Question:

My Father is trying to learn guitar and he's 75 years old do you think he is too old to learn?

He says he can learn no problem because he is male and men brains don't degrade as fast as females.. is this true?

  1. First, If it makes him happy to learn the guitar then you should support and encourage him to do so. Second, you can tell him that brains stay healthy and active when they are used and when older people feel useful and keep busy. It sounds like your dad is on the right track. However, I am not so sure being a man or woman has anything to do with whether or not your going to get Alzheimer's or dementia.  


  2. It doesnt matter how old he is as long as he is cognitively aware of how to play.

  3. no you are never too old to learn, but I don't think he'd get very far with biology lol.

    but sure, he can learn it still!

    i've heard of "cant teach an old dog new tricks"

    but never "cant teach an old man new tricks"

    I don't know  about the whole brain degrading thing though!  

  10. Sure he can still learn...as long as he doesn't have an issue with arthritis.

    As to the brain degrading...not to bash but isn't alzheimer's more common in men.

    Edit: I am incorrect in that statement....looks like men and women develop Alzheimer equally...however b/c of women living longer.  More women then men have it.

    Your father is a grown adult man, he can do whatever he wants as long as it doesn't effect anyone negatively.

    You gained your right to not listen to your father anymore when you turned 18.

    As for women's brains? Don't confuse all women with the one who did you wrong and female psychopaths.

  12. Your never to old to learn, plus the more he uses his brain to learn new things the longer he can keep off alztimers.... even if he is never very good at it he wants to learn and it makes him happy so let him go for it!!!
