My Father job set a trust fund account for me when i was a kid and my father passed away.?

A trustfund account was set up in my name thru my fathers job and he passed away. Now i am grown and dont have any infomation to that trust fund account not even about the bank who set it up. Can anyone give me info on how and what to do on pursuing on how to get my trustfund it has been lots of years. Do you think it is still availble to me after 19 years.

  1. Accounts that are inactive for 7 years typically go to the state after being listed in the local newspaper.  That is why Russ B suggested checking the state for unclaimed funds.

    Is your mother still around or know anything about it?  What suddenly brought this to light?  If there is such a trust that anyone in your familiy knows about, someone should have been receiving at least annual statements (or 1099's).


  2. It is hard to say if the fund still exists...was it a revocable trust?  You might try searching the state he lived in at that time for abandoned accounts on that states website.

    A trust fund set up through an employer isn't very common, it shouldn't be that hard to find. A Trust does have to be registered and file tax returns.

  3. Unless he took the money back out, it should exist somewhere but hard to tell where.  Since he didn't leave any info on where it is, it's possible that he had closed it out.
