Check his bank statements. You should see payments to the insurance company on there. You can contact them that way.

Or, wait to receive something in the mail. If he had a policy, at some point they're going to send paperwork in the mail. It may be a bill, or if the policy was paid up, it may just be an annual update.

Look in one of his old checkbooks, to see if he paid the premiums by check or thru his papers/files, as people don't normally throw away the ir insurance policies.

No, it's not easy.  It's protected by privacy laws, so first you have to become appointed executor of his estate.  Then you have to go through his papers and records, request banking records, contact his attorneys, accountant, etc.
