I'm planning a small reunion with some old friends but I can't think of a place to meet up. I'm looking for a lounge or a nice resturaunt, someplace laid back where we can get drinks and catch up. But one thats not terribly boring or extremely expensive. Any suggestions? I'm short on time

  1. If it's a nice day or early evening a really nice place to meet, as long as it's not too hot or cold is the top of the Gansvoort Hotel. The top of the Hotel is open to the public, there is a pool for hotel guest, but on the other side is a bar area where there is no time frame as to how long you can sit, and they have food and drink service.  I stayed at the hotel, even though I live in the city and I loved spending time up there.  Across the street is a great restaurant Pastis, quite the in place.  We only went there for lunch .  It's all in the Meat Market area, the in area.

Also a little more money, but they don't rush you and great food is the restaurant, City Hall, you can pretty much figure out where that one is.  I got married there, so yes, I have special feelings about that place, but I go to lunch and dinner there a lot.  Closed Sunday.

I love the Atlantic Grill, about 77th and 3rd or Lex, big menu and good prices, but can be noisy, if you can get a table off in the back you will be able to talk and hear each other better,  Again for nice atmosphere and good food there is the Boat House in Central Park, 79th St, I believe at Boat Basin.

Expensive, but worth every penny, you can sit back and relax, and as it's a tasting menu, you can make it as cheap or as expensive as you want, my favorite restaurant in NY and one of the highest rated restaurant in NY, Maze, in the London Hotel, West 54th Street .The  dress is casual, and even though it is high class, men are not supposed to wear ties  It is owned by the British chef Gordon Ramsey.  Don't now anyone who hasn't fallen in love with the place.
