  1. I don't have mice but I have 4 male guinea pigs and I am constantly witnessing the dominance routine.

Did you just get these 2 mice? If so, then you don't know their history. My guess is that these mice are new to each other, or new to your home. Or you have changed their home in some way, recently.

Whenever there are changes to the home, if they are separated for any length of time, or if there are new additions to the family, they have to re-do the dominance thing. Once the dominance is understood, they usually stop. If it doesn't stop, one condition might be that their living situation is too small for them and you might want to expand their cage.

My dominant pig still chases the other 3 around (I think he likes it) but I give ample room for the others to "escape" and hidey places that they can go to. Males are a lot meaner to each other than females typically.

I hope these suggestions help you

  2. Ivy is just showing dominance, you should either move them into different cages or every time Ivy starts to hump Lilah pull her off or clap your hands so she will stop and eventually she will learn to not hump Lilah again...

  3. LOL

Its not rape you silly goose!

    Its dominance!

XD You know how some dogs hump other same s*x dogs for dominance? Well the same thing in this case, dont worry XD

My two girl rats do it too!

  4. What??????

  5. No, no, no, no, no. xD

    It's ok.

The 'alpha mouse' (who in this case is Ivy) is just showing who's boss.

    Lilah is not getting hurt.

Waaay too many different types of animals do that. It's not uncommon. I often see my degus doing that as well. xD

It's unnerving, sometimes, yes, but nothing's going on. xD

Just shoo Ivy off of her so she'll learn it's not necessary.

    Good luck!
