  1. The Destiny is one of Carnival's older ships and she sails from San Juan, meaning there may be a lot of "locals" on the trip.  This makes a difference to some people and not to others.  It is also a port-intensive itinerary, so you'll be very busy [and spend more on shore trips] - you see lots of different islands, but it's not as relaxing as having several sea days.

Formal dinners can be very dressy, although Carnival supposedly recently revised their dress code [which they were very lax in enforcing anyway], so it's hard to say.  You could get by with dressy black pants or long black skirt with a couple of dressy tops and be just fine.  Men should at least have a jacket or suit - some men will be wearing tuxes [which you can rent on board, if you like].

If this is your first cruise, I suggest you get a book about cruising from your library or bookstore, or go to CruiseCritic.com.  Click on "Boards", then go to any topic that interests you.  You might also be interested in "Cruise Styles" ["Romance"] and "Reviews", especially "Member Reviews".  You'll get all the info you could possibly use from experienced cruisers.

Have a great cruise and congratulations on your marriage.

One suggestion for Dominica:  the WackyRollers canopy/zipline excursion is a lot of fun, if you're up for some adventure.

  2. you will love cruising!!! the Destiny is a great ship, I sailed on her a couple years ago.  Sure there will be a crowd but you just have to keep in mind you're on vacation and have a good time.  The only time I really noticed the crowds was during lunch in the buffett, getting off at ports and sea days by the pool.  On sea days get a chair on the higher decks, that way you'll get a better breeze, view of the ocean and away from the crowds.  You can find ways to get away....like your cabin, it is your honeymoon after all *wink wink*.

Formal nights- you can wear a cocktail dress, skirt and cute top, or heck even a ballgown!  the other nights you can just wear dress pants, skirts, or sundresses.  you can even wear jeans but some people may give you a weird llok, who cares? it's vacation.

hint-sea sickness......dramamine makes you drowsy and doesn't work well with alcohol.  but GINGER PILLS are a natural motion sickness remedy.  i've only ever been sea sick once and the ginger pills worked awesome! you can buy them at any store in the vitamin aisle.

  3. I would try checking out cruisecritics.com. They have a bunch of info on there from fellow cruisers.

I have been on the Destiny once before and I am going again in August and I love it, very nice ship. The Balcony rooms are about the same size or maybe slightly smaller to accommodate for the size of the actual balconies but it is still a great size room you will have plenty of space. My ex boyfriend and I went and we didn't have any problems with space.

Formal night are kinda fun, you will see everything from people who don't get you're supposed to dress up a bit to people who go way over board (no pun intended) and dress in ballgowns and such. I usually wear a gown (yes I am one of those people), but you can get away with a nice cocktail dress with no problems. I love the food on the cruises and the formal night dinner is usually the best (lobster and such).

If your itinerary is like mines where you are at sea everyday be sure to eat as much as you can on the ship to cut back on spending cash on the islands some places can be a bit pricey. See the shows if you can catch them, some are a little corny but it's still fun. We also watched the comedians and watched karaoke. All very fun.

    Enjoy your trip.

  4. The easiest way is to go to carnival.com and click on ships

then click on the ship destiny , it'll show pictures and all you need for your trip. The ship is very large , and plenty of ammenities. The Balcony room is a very good room much bigger than normal staterooms. The Formal dinners are pretty formal , but it's only one night and it's worth it , we got great pictures of it and the food was awesome. However I must stress that Carnival is a crowded ship , and if youre on youre honeymoon ,not much for seclusion for you and your mate. You wear business casual all over the ship dress shorts and sundresses not really jeans. Your port of calls are the most fun but remember to stick together, youre in a foreign country after all, be safe. And go on tours theyre fun and well worth it. Don't drink too much as that's how you get seasick. Learn to say no to the servers about drinks, after all water and coffee and juice are free.  So is room service use it it's free. You need to tip them but you should anyway. Have fun.
