I Am going to be getting my first bike soon. I am good on my dirtbike so I'm not all that inexperienced. I am looking for a sportbike. I am 5'11 170pds 18yrs old. What do you suggest for my first bike? What should I expect?

Any help is appreciated.

  1. You will be quite happy with a 600cc. You might even be over your head. Don't be bent on the fastest bike until you have worked you're way up, and expereienced the bike. There's professional racers in their 30's and 40's still on 600cc. I personally like a 600 over a 1000 for daily riding. It gets better gas mileage and it's more mellow in lower RPMs.

Remember it's the bikes weight too, you want to manuever at low speeds comfortably without putting your feet down!

Main difference inbetween the 600cc and 1000cc is that the 600 feels like a scooter until you hit 7,000 RPMs and it LAUNCHES. A 1000cc is strong everywhere over 4,000 RPMs and just turns totally insane after 10,000 RPMs- first time I got into redline on a 1000cc bike (2004 R1) I said to myself "well that is TOTALLY F**KING UNNESSESARY!" joyfully. ANYWAYS

You gotta walk before you can run.

1000cc bikes are less forgiving, especially to a new rider. They are heavier, will double your insurance, and their power can be overwhelming. If you hit a pot hole, being a new rider, you could blip the throttle and the bike will rocket out from underneath you. Not to mention people on 600's that have expeirence will laugh at your SQUIDINESS, and loop you on the corners.

Take the MSF safety course, riding on road is different than off-road. Main differences are use of the front brake and looking into corners.

  3. Suzuki GS 500F.

  4. if you have experience such as dirtbikes etc, i would say no less then 600cc for the 90's an 00's, if its new, something like a newish 500cc ninja would be the minimum, but if your completely flatout new i would try a 250cc any year 500cc to a 600cc if your not a speed demon

  5. racing bike!!!! 20 inch rims! fast.

  6. With your height, weight, and experience, a 600cc will be a good starter

    Honda CBR600RR

    Kawasaki Ninja zx6r

    Yamaha R6

    Suzuki gsxr600

Get a used one. Late 90s or early 2000. Wouldn't cost ya no more than 3 or 4 grand.

Make sure you get the proper gear. At least a snell helmet and armoured jacket. Boots and gloves are a plus. I seen a guy on youtube snap his foot off by putting his foot down at the wrong time, the ground snatched it right up. He had on gloves, helmet and jacket. The boots are ankle reinforced so no snappy.
