Question:

My Ford Is Misfiring & Won't Run.... What is wrong?

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus 3.0 V6 with coil pack. I have an error code (302) that says that there is a problem on cylinder number 2. I changed the plugs and wires and the car runs a little bit better but the check engine light is still on or sometimes flashes.

Now today the car is sputtering when in gear and basically isn't driveable. It has no power at all. When in park, I can rev it up and the RPM's go up. When put in gear (drive or reverse) it seems like the car is going to stall out and RPM's are super low and won't move much even when I hit the gas.

What is the problem here? Any ideas?

I also seem to be using a lot more fuel that usual... Does this have anything to do with a coil pack or clogged fuel injector???? If so, which one? I need to know which part to buy.

    D   dead

  2. Fuel filter?  Timing belt?

  3. The misfire is caused by the bad fuel injector .I've worked on many ford Taurus with the same problem. Then usually go out in pairs so did be surprised when you change out the # 2 fuel injector that you will have to change another has well.Get that fuel injector replaced.

  4. bad coil

    i replace lots of them

  5. First off, Ford's don't misfire.  Go ahead, call Ford and ask.  That's why they don't let you count misfires on the OBDII scanner. This is kind of a running joke in the industry.

There are lots of potential causes for this code on this car. A bad coil is the most likely after plugs and wires.  A dirty EGR would be next but a bit less likely. Bad EGR's on this car tend to throw only the P0302 code, not for any of the other cylinders.  Don't know why.  Pull the vacuum hose from the EGR.  If the hesitation goes away you have your culprit.  Even a bad alternator can be a cause but should throw more than just one cylinder misfire code.  A bad injector could also cause this and is more likely than the alternator.  To test that you could swap 2 injectors and see if the misfire follows to the new cylinder.
