Ok, so my friends and I are going to LA this weekend. They all have tattoos and are getting second ones. They want me to get a tattoo as well. First, I don't like needles. Second, my father hates tattoos (I look up to him). Third, I work in a professional environment and do not want anyone knowing I have a tattoo. Nor do I want to be older and regret getting a tattoo. I would just like people to give me their pros and cons. I want one but at the same time I dont.

  1. Whether or not you want one or not, at this time you definitely do not.  I think citing professional concerns is a decent way to go.  You could also say it's just not for you.  Too many things are done because a person wants to be a part of the crowd.  Don't let that happen to you.

  2. Since you have a number of (very important) hang ups, I suggest not getting it done.

A tattoo is permanent, imagine having to wear the same shirt/ring/armband/whatever everyday and every night. One you'd never be able to take off even if you wanted to. Eventually you'd get sick of it. Sure you could cover it up with clothing but soon you'd get sick of doing that too.

And that description is from someone with a tattoo.

Another important point is that you don't want to get a tattoo on a whim. It's something you have to take longer to think about since it's going to be a permanent marking on your body.

If you decide you really do want a tattoo don't rush it and take your time to find an image that represents you as an individual. Then choose your tattoo artist. The checklist in the sources section is very useful. If you don't want something that is obvious you can always get a UV tattoo that will only show under black light.

As you can see it would not be a good idea to get the tattoo this weekend, it would be rushed. If you do decide to get one in the future make sure you've given it enough thought.

Most importantly you do not want to disappoint your father just to please your friends. Friends come and go but your family will be your family forever.

Sorry for the long answer hope it helped! Enjoy your weekend! Don't turn it into one you'll regret :)

  3. If you do not 110% want one, the DO NOT get one

More than likely you will end up regretting it and tattoo removal is very expensive.

  4. getting a tattoo is a bad idea. your friends will understand if you really dont want to get it.if a tattoo is going to jeapordize your job and dissappoint your dad is it really worth it.

you could get a temporary air brush tattoo if you get caught up in the moment.
