  1. unplug it

tack the back off and look at the place wear the element plugs in if it pluged in good look at the element and see if it is crakt if os it will need to be replased

  2. Gas or electiric?  Is the pilot lit?

  3. I would guess that when you lifted it to clean under it you broke the element or pulled off a wire in the back of the stove that you cannot see without removing the back of the stove.

It is best to call a repair person and have it fixed,if you rent call the landlord if you own your place call a repair shop.

If you attempt this on your own: UNPLUG THE STOVE BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIRS.

  4. First turn the power off at the fuse box of circuit breaker 40-50 amp service to ranges and ovens. If the burner plugs into the back wall you have a receptacle back there and the contact points could be worn. If the burner is screwed to the back wall check the wiring. If it is a older range the clock has a manual position and if not set right the oven will not work. you might have moved the clock k**b when cleaning.

  5. Check to see if the element is broken.  When looking at the top the element may look good but can be defective on the bottom side.  To change the element, first make sure the power is off by turning it off at the breaker.  There are probably two screws on the back wall of the oven cavity where the element goes into.  Undo these screws and gently pull the element out.  You may have to wiggle it a little bit to do this.  When you pull it out you will see each end of the element is attached to a wire.  Pull off the wires and attach new element.  Just google appliance parts for your area and you will find a parts dealer.  If its not the element, it could be a power issue, clock or thermostat.  At that point I would get a service tech to look at it.

  6. The part that plugs in is probably made of copper. Sometimes it gets corroded . Take a knife or something and just scrape over it. Unplug it from the wall socket first. Also scrape over the plug-in prongs before plug-ins before plugging it back in.
