I always thought it would be great to travel on cruises. Sounds so exciting. My gf and I both love travelling. I mentioned that we should go on a cruise sometime and she was like - "No people disappear from cruises a lot and thrown off the boat etc"...Is this true and should she be really worried?

  1. Funny... that's not true.  There are cases of it but it's no more than any other type of vacation disappearance or accident.  You should not worry about it.  Cruise is a lot of fun.  You will enjoy it.

Have you thought about pirates in the Caribbeans?  They are real....

  2. You know anyone can disappear on vacation...it's the risk you run anytime you travel!  To avoid anything happening on a cruise...ALWAYS stay together and don't leave eachother alone on the ship unless it's in the cabin.  Get to know people that work there and some other people at dinner or something.  Get a spa treatment together or go to the casino/bars together, always lay by each other at the pool.  Basically just don't be alone at night.  I always had someone walk me down to my cabin when I was leaving the bars.  Try not to get wasted too cause that just never is fun for many reasons.  Just remind her that anytime you travel you always risk something happening when you're out of your element type thing.  And if you stay together and don't let her walk around by herself (especially at night) you guys will have the time of your life cause they are SO much fun!  Good luck :)

  3. I have been on numerous cruises and I have never had any trouble on the Holland America cruise line.  Yes there have been accidents but you need to look at the circumstances involved and out of all the cruises that depart how many have actually had that type of problem.  You have more chances of being in a car accident than to disappear on a cruise.  Tell your gf to relax and go on a cruise they are absolutely wonderful experiences.  Good Luck KG

  4. There is a very slight risk involved, I guess, but consider how many people travel on cruise ships each year. I would not be concerned.

  5. No that is really rare.  She is thinking bout all the idiots who go socializing with other passengers and get taken away and killed.  BLAME THE MEDIA!!!  No there is nothing to worry about.

  6. A lot?  Sorry, but it's not true.  You hear about it more now, but considering the number of cruises each year and the number of people that travel on them, the numbers are actually quite low.

If your GF is worried then tell her that you will both follow these steps:

    1.  Don't get drunk on your vacation.  Accidents are more likely to happen when you have lost control.

    2.  Don't take tours from people who aren't affiliated with the line and who aren't licensed.

    3.  If you get separated on the boat or on shore, have a check-in location and time that is always set up.  If the other person fails to show up, then contact as many people on the ship as you can.

    4.  Don't wear flashy items, carry your passport on you, or do anything that would make you a target.  Getting into a Tequila drinking contest at Senior Frog's while wearing your gold rolex and paying with hundred dollar bills will attract unwanted criminal attention.

    5.  Don't pick fights, get into heated discussions, or be rude to *anyone*.  If someone is hassling you, contact a ship staff member immediately.

Just be smart about everything.  The chances are probably much lower for any foul play if you act like adults.  : )

  7. People don't disappear ALOT on cruises! She has no need to worry, we only hear about that kind of stuff because its so rare that they make a huge deal about it.

  8. I have been on more than a dozen cruises and no one has ever disappeared, fallen over or been assaulted on ship.  Some people do stupid stuff like go places and go off on their own and disappear, Like Natalie Holloway.  But cruises are one of the safest vacations you can take because EVERY passenger who gets on or off the ship  most have positive ID and there is no way a potential thief, murderer, etc could get on ship.  Cruise lines DO NOT ALLOW VISITORS AT All to board the ship

  9. Every week, there are hundreds of thousands -probably millions-of people on cruises around the world. In the last few years, I believe we've heard about 3-4 people disappearing. Do you suppose the odds are that good on land? Nope.

  10. 64 people in the last six years have gone missing on cruise ships.  But think of the millions of passengers in that six years that made it home ok and you know what?  It's not the cruise lines fault.  Don't get drunk and stand near the edge and don't bring stangers into your cabins, don't leave your cabin unlocked.  And the big one if the ship is set to sail at 5pm from Puerto Vallarta don't show up at 5:10 and expect that it waited for you.  They will not come back for you and will not pay for your air flights home.
