My GOLDFISH has ich...?

Well, I am wondering what else I can do. I have a new 3wk old 10 gallon tank with one goldfish. I've been checking water regularly. I also keep the light on from morning to night, then turn it off before bed. The temp of the water was around 80. I had some algea growing on a rock. The petstore told me to keep the light off, only have it on a few hours. Well I did that and then within a couple of days, my fish had a few little white spots on his fins. That night I went to the petstore and they gave my Ick Clear. I have done 2 treatments, a water change with each treatment like the directions say, turned the light back on all day, and my goldie is doing worse. Each day he is covered more and a bit listless and floating near the top. I know he isn't feeling good, but do you think he can survive it and what else should I be doing? Each time I go to the petstore I get different advice and I don't think it's good advice. Thank You.

  1. Don't always trust the people at pet stores when it comes to their advice.  For all you know it could be there first day.  We followed their advice once and ended up with a dead betta.

  2. keep trying to treat it

  3. Ok, I'd say that was ich do they look almost hairy? The spots, not the fish. lol

First of ALL. Did you take out the carbon DURING the treatment?

IF you didnt, the treatment never got to the fish, and instead was sucked up by the carbon.

Remove carbon, and retreat, doing changes as directed. Only when you want to take OUT the meds, do you add the carbon back.

    Do over!

Also: Never Listen to Pet Store Employees!

do you know that one told me one time that I had ammonia BECAUSE I had live plants in my tank? HAHAHA!

    Good stuff=)

  4. Try to keep the lights in ur aquarium on for a few hours in night not day, which will help to cure the ich, keep ur goldfish in a quarentine tank and give ur medicine, do as what  the medicine says, an ich should clear up in 10 days just follow the directions in ur medicine, and every 3 days give a pinch of aquarium salt in ur quarentine tank and do 15% water change in every 3 days it should clear up in 10days.

PS: U can also feed ur goldfish its food, and after 10 days u will see that ur goldfish is totally healthy, DO NOT KEEP UR GOLDFISH IN THE MAIN TANK it will make the water really bad, after 10 days keep ur goldfish in another tank for 1 day and then release him in the main tank. For more information u can search the internet and good luck!
