  1. Let me put this in a way not to impugn you or your brother. The following scenario may not apply to your case.

If a patient were on  narcotic pain medication or other addicting medication, the GP would want to reduce the chance of addiction. Such patients who have such a dependency need are often at odds with their physician and frequently go doctor shopping, looking for another who will prescribe these medicines. Those of us in community medicine see the type more frequently than we want.

  2. Well if it's a surgery with more than one doctor at the practice, you can request to see another doctor for a second opinion. If not, then you can change your GP but when changing, register with a practice with a number of doctors so that you can always ask to see another doctor within the practice if you choose to do so.

  3. Yes you can change your GP.  You should call your local Health Authority.  The number will be in the Yellow Pages.  While you are contacting the Health Authority, perhaps you should make a complaint about your current GP.

  4. You can always question why?

He might reduce some medications after blood tests, but if you're not happy try a different Doctor at the surgery or you can always change?

  5. Dont stand for any that c**p. Go to your doctors reception and just say, i would like to change my GP, you have every RIGHT hun, so dont be ashamed, your entitled to alot more. Dont be pushed around just tell them straight, they might take a hint and leave LOL

    Hope that helps :)

  6. GPs can vary tremendously. If you are not happy with yours, then change. The suggestion about talking to others with similar problems to see if they can recommend anyone is a good one.

  7. I'm not sure how you would go about changing your brothers Doctors, if you are his guardian it might be OK i don't know.

but assuming you can change your brothers Doctors just walk into any surgery and ask them if you can join, you don't have to give a reason why you want to move and unless you have been booted out of another Doctors you should be fine.

    good luck

  8. For goodness sake, get another doctor pronto!  You are absolutely under no obligation to go to any particular doctor nor are you obligated to continue to see a doctor - for any reason.  A really good way to find a doctor for your brother is to find a support group in your community for people who have the condition your brother does.  Contact that group or attend one of their meetings and get referrals from the members for doctors who specialize in treating people with your brother's affliction.

P.S. I noticed you referred to the doctor as a "GP".  If your brother has a disability that requires treatment, you should be seeing a specialist, not a GP.

  9. Be careful here.  A doctor is a doctor - if he thinks the medicines should be reduced then there must be a reason.  If you think this is wrong you should either write him a letter outlining why you think this or make an appointment to see him and talk about it calmly and rationally.  These days if you make too much of a fuss they can literally bar you from the practice - and it could be difficult to find another doctor to take you on.  Go and discuss this with him and dont get angry it wont get you anywhere.  Doctors on the whole know what they are doing.

  10. Hi, first thing thats a huge problem because someone can get hurt. Ifyour GP keeps on and he or shes your only guardian you have to be big sis and step up and maybe wake your bro up a lilttle earlier than usual to give him his meds but I dont know how old you are but you may have to learn for your brother. I'm disabled and my boyfriend gives me my meds. but I also know that its not good to miss doses or take the wrong dosage to. I had to learn the hard way so please take a little or all my advice to heart it will only better and help you and your brother maybe your GP will let you be in charge of his meds for now. I wish you the best luck!

  11. um yeah
