  1. its illegal for him to countersign your passport unless he can say he knows you and has done for at least 3 years

i have the capacity to countersign passports and have been asked to do so by people i hardley know

and i will not do it

so he is right to stand his ground

there is a big fine if he did countersign it and it turned out not to be true.

so you need to find some one else

  2. Nurses CAN countersign....I've done plenty

As can any of the following, as long as you've known them over 2 years.........

    Accountant

    Airline Pilots

Articled clerk of a limited company

    Assurance agent of recognised company

    Bank/building society official

    Barrister

British Computer Society (BCS) - Professional grades which are Associate (AMBCS), Member (MBCS), Fellow (FBCS) (PN 25/2003)

    Broker

    Chairman/director of limited company

    Chemist

    Chiropodist

    Christian Science practitioner

    Commissioner of oaths

    Councillor: local or county

    Civil servant (permanent)

    Dentist

    Designated Premises Supervisors

Director/Manager of a VAT registered Charity

EDITED...Please don't use up a valuable doctors appointment by pretending to be ill. Someone will genuinley need that appointment. There is plenty of other people listed above that could sign for you.

  3. my gp charged me £25 to sign mine

  4. He doesn't have to sign if he doesn't want to. His reason is a perfectly good one.

Visiting again won't help because he has to sign that he has known you for two years, so a month won't change anything.

  5. You obviously haven't been ill enough for your doctor to get to know you.

Find someone else. Even if he knew you well,he is under no obligation to sign.

Sleepystar1975 has the list for you.

  6. There's plenty of other people you can ask to sign apart from your GP. And if I were you I'd change to another GP.

  7. I cannot believe a GP ..or any professional ..would charge for signing??? Mad!

And yes, a nurse is a valid countersignature.

  8. Unfortunately it's up to him whether he wants to countersign your passport.  He most certainly can refuse to do so.  If he refuses again try someone like your dentist or a longstanding family friend with a reasonably responsible job

  9. well he did refuse didn't he.

So he will refuse again. A doctor has to know someone well for like a 2 year period or longer, not a few weeks.

  10. My GP countersigned mine without really knowing me as we were new to the area. It cost me 25 pounds ! I don't think nurses are allowed.
