My Gi Gi, Lady Of Shamrock and Stormy Lucy meet again in the American Oaks
The three fillies, My Gi Gi, Lady Of Shamrock, and Stormy Lucy previously squared off in the Grade 2 Honeymoon Handicap at the Betfair Hollywood Park on 9th
June, 2012, over 1 1/8 miles, and secured placed finishes.
Now, the trio will get a chance to battle it out in the Grade 1 American Oaks Presented by American Airlines, due to take place on 14th July, 2012, at the same track for the purse of $350,000.
Since, the American Oaks is run over at 1 ¼ miles, the trio will stretch out in distance from their previous run over 1 1/8 miles.
Trained by Peter Eurton for owners, Conner & Jacobsen, My Gi Gi aced the Honeymoon Handicap by a small margin of a nose over the race favourite, Lady Of Shamrock, which earned her the first graded victory of her career.
The daughter of E Dubai, out of mare Relish The Thought, will be aiming to land the third victory of her career in her eighth start. She has everything she needs, but she would also need the rub of the green to go her way.
The Hronis Racing LLC owned Lady Of Shamrock will try to make up for the small distance in this race and, attempt to down this race. Over the course of her career, she has collected earnings worth $255,400 and, triumphed in four of her eight starts.
Frank Lucarelli’s charge, Stormy Lucy, completed a hat-trick this season at Golden Gates Fields when she excelled in a Starter Allowance, Allowance Optional Claiming and the Golden Poppy Stakes where she raced over 1 1/16 mile on 6thMay,
2012, and defeated, Oh Molly Brannigan, and completed the race in 1 minute and 44.31 seconds.
The prestigious race is possibly the last meet of the summer spring meet and, it has attracted runners from distant places. The Rae Guest trained, Miss Cato, and Mick Channon’s charge, Nayarra, will be shipped from the United Kingdom to take a shot
at it.
It will be a tough battle between some of the best fillies; each of the nine runners is entering with a high-weight of 121 pounds. It will be a test of real stamina and ability to see which one of these sophomore fillies can trump the competition.
