Question:

My Go Green contribution?

So I'm going to contribute to this whole green contribution. I just got a sewing machine, and I think I'm going to start a recycled clothing business. People in my local area can bring me there clothes, either for repair, or just to get something totally differant. The main idea though is to just use recycled clothing, instead of throwing it away. This idea just popped in my head. So I'm not sure about all the details yet. I'm also thinking about charging money, so that I can donate to a Green Charity. (Any good charities in mind?) I was thinking about 75% of my profit. (I do want some money for my time, and to keep up matinence and stuff) Any suggestions?

  1. I don't really have any suggestions (sorry!) but I just wanted to tell you that I think it's an awesome idea...especially about donating to a green charity.

  2. A friend of mine is getting a masters degree in fashion, and she told me about a lady who made a designer clothing business out of discarded fabric scraps and reused clothing from places like Goodwill.  She got quite a bit of press about it.  I think it's a great idea!  Make sure you are aware of current fashion trends, because that will help you gain visibility/popularity, which is VERY important when you are trying to raise eco-awareness.

    Charities?  Here's a great resource: http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cf...

    I personally like the following:

    Sierra Club Foundation (http://www.sierraclub.org/foundation/)

    Rainforest Alliance (http://www.rainforest-alliance.org/)

    Nature Conservancy (http://www.nature.org/)

    Defenders of Wildlife (http://www.defenders.org/index.php)

    Good luck!
