My God-daughter is shaking when she wakes up?

My god-daughter is 13 months old, and for the past few weeks, she has been shaking really badly right after she wakes up. This started a few days after she tried to climb out of her crib and fell down, hit her head and got a small cut. We took her to the ER, but they said it wasn't deep enough to require stitches or a Cat Scan or anything. She did it today for like 10 seconds after she got up from her nap, and we tried calling the doctor, but they said she's probably just "startled"

when she wakes up, but she never did this before she hit her head... Has anyone ever seen this before and if so, what was the outcome?? Please help, we're really worried...

  1. Whoa, that's scary. :[

Well, I know when I wake up from naps, I sometimes shake from realizing temperature changes. Is the room air conditioned?

I would definitely seek the advice at a Children's hospital. Obviously, the doctors you called were incompetent.

Anyway, good luck! And you'll be in my thoughts :)

  2. My daughter started shaking when she wakes up in her car seat. She's never been a big fan of her car seat, but didn't start doing this till around 5 months. So, it may be just something new. She's more aware of her surroundings and may remember falling asleep in the car and then she's upset when she awakes somewhere different. I'm not sure.

We also still swaddle her, so I'm not sure if she would/does do it in her crib.

I do agree with trusting your instincts, though. Hope you find something out.

  3. um dont take no for an answer when conserned, always make sure you get an explanation that satisfy you

try a regular doctor or something

  4. I have never heard of this before, but you should trust your instincts.  Insist on a cat scan or MRI, most likely she is fine, but at least it would put your fears at ease.  I would get a second opinion, or even see a neurologist.    The Dr. won't know what is wrong with  your daughter unless he sees it, so take a video of her, if you don't have a video camera,  do you have video on your cell phone?  take the video of her while she is shaking, and then show it to your dr., or another Dr. if you want to get a second opinion.  I'm sure your daughter is fine, but I know what it feels like to be worried about something, and your better safe than sorry.

  5. Dont take no for an answer have someone see her if this continues. Are you sure she is shaking and not having seizures? Best to be safe.
