I just bought 4 SMALL goldfishes. We have a 10 gallon tank and we have these food floating pellets which are too big for their mouth. Are they starving? cuz they look like they are. they're always desperately looking around for food (or maybe something else).I feed them three times a day, 8 of the floating thingies. (am i overfeeding (for 4 goldfishes) Should i go and buy another kind of food? And how much should i feed them?

I have a filter and a oxygen thing. I only use tap water and this Ph conditioner. Do i need something else to keep the water safe?

Oh- and what should i name them??(1 is black, the other is silver and a little orange, and 2 are normal golish orange colour

And! Sometimes the fishes are just lying on the ground with their eyes open. are they sleeping?

Am i worrying too much ( cuz i bought these fishes before and two of them died emediately)

JUST TELL ME ALL I NEED TO DO TO KEEP 4 small GOLDFISHES ALIVE!! PLEASE :)

THANKS FOR UR HELP

  1. you should get goldfish flakes. feed them like 3 or 4 times  day.

  2. Goldfish can survive in a dirty toilet.  They're getting what they need.  Don't sweat it and go play.

  3. Well, first things fisrt, you will need a 40 galln tank. That is if those are fancy goldfish, if those are comon or comet goldfish you will need a 100 gallon tank. Fancy goldfish get 6-8 inches long if taken proper care of, and common and comet goldfish get a foot long. You should probably break the food into smaller peices so it can fit in there mouth. If they are uninterested in it, then it may just be them adgusting to their new enviornment. Chances are when they are lying on the bottom, they are not sleeping, but you have not dechlorinated the water! ph conditioner does not take dangerous chemicals out of the water, it only adjusts the ph, you NEED to go to the pet store NOWand get water conditioner! Or else the chemicals in the tap water will KILL your goldfish! Here is a good caresheet on goldfish- http://www.firsttankguide.net/goldfish.p...

You nEED ot go to the pet store NOW and even if you do, I doubt all the fish will survive. Chlorine kills fish!

  4. you need to feed them fish flaks they need to be fed once a day

  5. Try buying them fishflakes.

The Brand is call : Wardley Essentials Goldfish Flakes. (Buy @ Wal-Mart) (Cheap price $$)

That will probaly help your small goldies... :D

Cuz I have 4 small fantail goldies too so I think those flakes r good 4 them.

  6. Just because they are small now doesn't mean they are going to be in a few months. My fantail went from an inch to two inches in the 6 weeks since we bought him. You are going to need to upgrade to a 50 gallon tank eventually because goldfish make a lot of ammonia and you are going to have ammonia poisoning pretty soon. They will also grow and if they don't have the room they will get stunted and be in pain. To keep this fish alive you are going to need a bigger tank, there is no way around it. I'm sorry.

Go get some flakes. Tetra is a good brand. You should soak the food for a few minutes in some tank water before you give it to them. It will help keep them healthy.

You should probably get a water conditioner if all you use is something for pH. There is chlorine and chloramines in the water that need to be taken out. I suggest NovAqua+.

If the fish are on the ground are their fins tucked? That would be a sign that there is an ammonia problem! Do a water change. Get an ammonia remover media in your filter.

Cut back on feeding! That is why the water is cloudy because all the food that is left is dissolving and making the water messy. Only feed 1-2 times a day and only the amount they can consume in a few minutes. Scoop out any food that isn't eaten. Best of luck.

    EDIT:

Oops forgot name suggestions. Black one Kuro, silver one Gin, gold one Kin, and the other gold one Kiiro. Colors in Japanese. The last one is yellow since gold was used for the goldfish.

  7. You should buy them some of the flake food, it's easier to digest.  Also, if you are using tap water to fill the tank, make sure you buy special conditioner to take the chemicals and flouride out of the water.  It's safe for us, but not for them.  Hope this helps!
