  1. Anything by Emily Dickinson would be appropriate.  I'm very sorry about your grandmother.

  2. Death Is Nothing At All

I have only slipped away into the next room.

I am I and you are you

Whatever we were to each other,

    that we are still

Call me by the old familiar name.

Speak of me in the easy way

    Which you always used.

Put no difference in your time

Wear no forced air of solemnity

    or sorrow.

    Laugh as we always laughed

    At the little jokes we

    enjoyed together

    Play, smile, think of me,

    pray for me.

Let my name be ever the

household word that it always was.

Let it be spoken without effort,

    Without the ghost of a

    shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant

It is the same as it ever was

    There is absolute and

    unbroken continuity.

    What is death but a

    negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind

because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you

    for an interval,

    Somewhere very near

    Just around the corner

    All is well.

  3. Both of the poems listed are excellent.

Death Is Nothing At All, for the funeral and I Am Not Here for the graveside service.

My condolences, to you and your family.

May your grandmother's legacy be passed to future generations through you.

  4. There is the old favourite:

    I AM NOT THERE

"Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awake in the morning's hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flights.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry

I am not there.  I did not die!

  5. My sympathies about the loss of your grandmother.  She was quite young for nowadays.  Can I suggest if she or you were at all religious a favourite piece  from The Bible might be as apt as a poem.  I know some people do not favour poems in such cases.  If you wish to discuss further perhaps we can 'write' off-list.

Today was the anniversary in 1935 of my parents' wedding.  It is a sad day for all!

  6. Something heartfelt like a few memories of her cooking or the things that she made for you or lessons you learned from her.  Quoting a poem is nice but not really personal.

*hugs* and condolences to you and your family.

  7. Its a short thing but:

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same
