We are having a hard time settling the estate of my grandmother as you know itis a terriable task as it is. We're all still grieving and all the Goverment can think about is ways to keep from letting my mother take needed monies to pay past obligations. She died on the 31st and she fell within 12 hours of her death in order to cash her ss check! We have no extra monies for funeral exspenses or any to pay her bills left behind. Which thats the least of our worries we LOVe my Grandmother and no money can help us have her back she deserved a better funeral and a good name with the people she dealt with. Will the goverment let her stimulus tax check be cashed since she passed away? The goverment has my mother as an only living heir afraid to do anything. Again money isn't the issue but what are my families rights? I thought some of you may be dealing with this problem although I hope not. My grandmother lived 86 beautiful years but it wasn't long enough for me shes sorely missed.

  1. It takes time to settle an estate - it has to go through probate which takes months.  Only the executor of her estate can cash the check.

  2. The rebate is not lost.  If it can't be deposited to your grandmother's account it should be returned to IRS with a request that it be reissued to your mother as executor of the estate.

  3. what she needs to is sign the check in her mothers name and deposit in your mothers account. just be quiet about it.
