My Guinea-pig runs away from me.

My Guinea-pig always runs away from me when I try to pick her up. The problem is that she is nearly 4 years old and until now I never really bothered with her so she is used to not being picked up. Does anyone have any tips to make her get used to me even though she isn't a baby anymore?
