I am a subscriber of Cablevision and changed my old cable box to HD cable box for my newly bought 1080p Full HD TV in order to have High Definition in all my local TV Channels but I noticed that those pictures I saw were blurred and not crystal clear pictures and captions' letters edges were jagged and some pixels (squares) were visible. It has a big difference as compared to the HDTVs I have seen in the Stores. Please help. Thanks.

  1. There are only a few channels broadcast in HD.  Also, I have learned that even if something is on an HD channel, if it's not recorded with an HD camera it won't be crystal clear.  Even movies that are only 8 years old are blurry because they didn't use HD cameras.  I've watched channels that are HD channels broadcast a live football game (last year) but not use a HD camera so it is still blurry.  My cable company had a to send a repair man to the house as I was having a little bit of trouble.  We were talking about the mandate for digital cable and HD channels.  He told me that not all channels will go HD.  It is just a mandate to go all digital.  No more antennas on roof tops.  I've had digital cable myself for the past 5 years.  However I've only had HD for about a year and a half.  There is a big difference between going digital and going HD.  Next year everyone will need convertor boxes for the digital cable.  But that's not stating that every person or channel will then have HD capability.

To truly view something in HD you must have digital cable along with the HD convertor assuming you have a TV with HD capability.  Then you need to be watching an HD channel actually broadcasting a live event, shows or movies in HD.  All of this must happen in order for you to truly have an HD quality picture.

  2. There are only a handful of HD Channels. These channels are located between ch700 and ch800. The rest of the channels (ch1-ch699) are all broadcast in regular standard definition. Not the 16:9 HD your TV supports. On the standard definition you will prbly notice the gray bars on the side.

Don't worry though come February 2009 all channels will be broadcast in HD.

  3. Everything will not be in HD, even if you have an HD TV. If a program is not filmed and edited with HD equipment, it is not truly in HD. Also, not every channel broadcasts in HD. Some stations air programs that have been upconverted to HD, but is still not HD quality. Also, some channels only broadcast HD in 720pi and not 1080. I work at a TV station and have talked to SO many people who have been deceived about HDTV from their service providers. DTV is confusing and consumers are being taken advantage of.
