I live in Mesa, Az and my HOA want me to trim my palm trees- I trimmed them within the last 3 years and would like to wait for another 2 years before trimming. I need to go to the HOA Board with some back up for trimming every 5 years. The palm are about 30-40 feet high and it is getting costly to keep trimming them! Can anyone give me some palm tree knowledge that I can cite! Thanks you!

  1. What kind of palm tree do you have?  A Pindo, a Fan or what?  Some palms look nice with dead fronds, others don't.

And what does your HOA contract say about keeping your landscape trim?

We have a fan palm that has a bunch of lower fronds that are dead and just laying against the stalk.  I was tempted to get them trimmed off until I realized that the dead fronds are popular with wildlife; a trasher and dove couple live in my palm tree and seek protection behind the dead fronds.  Other animals like bats also seek the shelter of dead fronds.  But so do roof rats...You could always claim you are a big wildlife supporter and want your palms to provide shelter for Mesa's critters.

We live in Cochise County, out in the country.  We wanted to live in a neighborhood not ruled by HOAs as they tend to be dictatorships.
