When I turn on my HP Pavilion laptop (DV6000) it makes 3 beeps and has a blank screen (the keys still light up for the dvd player, volume etc). Can anyone tell me whats wrong / what I need to do. Can't find an answer on hp.com anywhere to explain the beep code.

  1. This is commonly caused by loose hardware, in most cases this is usually the RAM sticks. If you have installed new hardware recently, you may want to re-connect them to the motherboard to check they are securely slotted in.

If you haven't installed new hardware, have you recently bumped or dropped your computer? If you have, that might be the problem.

Because beeps at the startup are caused by loose hardware.

  2. The commonest fault with the DV6000 is a faulty graphics chip, we regularly see these and can usually repair http://www.trilogicuk.co.uk

  3. Beeps come from the motherboard for when there is an error when it starts up. Sometimes the number of beeps will actually tell you what part of the motherboard is having an error. This could be from a few things, RAM, Processor, Motherboard itself, or even some power issues. (in most cases) I would try to re-install the RAM, check the processor to make sure its in place and check to see if the parts work on other computers.... it could be a million things but most likely its the motherboard.
