Question:

My HP Total Care Advisor says that security is in "critical" state, why is this?

Hi there, having uninstalled Norton after the free trial ended I have now downloaded AVG free edition 8.0 with no problems and in the Windows security center everything is fine with all green lights. However on the HP Total Care Advisor itself it says that my Internet security is at risk!? and there is a red exclamation mark which says "critical". This doesn't make sense as my antivirus/firewall etc. are all on and AVG hasn't reported anything wrong! What's going on?

  1. Disable or even remove the HP Total Care Advisor and do manual updates for your equipment through their site.

I use HP and have done for years, but the Total Care Advisor has 'preferred' programs and by removing any and substituting them is seen as a risk....it is not.

  2. I don't know the HP application but I can only assume that it doesn't recognize your antivirus and firewall and so thinks you are unprotected.

You should contact HP - I assume there's a contact address in the Total Care Advisor program - and ask them.

  3. It is possible that you do not have all of your Windows Updates. Maybe you need to do a "HP PC Tune-up Service"?

Usually, there are some kind of details for WHY HP Total Care Advisor says that your computer is at risk. Could you look around and see if there is a tab or link that gives you some details?

    Good luck
