My Hair Guy is too busy. Sending out emails? Bad Business?

Been with the same hair guy for about 5 years. I have spent thousands on my hair including very expensive extensions once upon a time.

I was going to call his salong and make an appointment for his next availability and coincidently enough I got this email which was forwarded to all is clients off his website.

If you are wishing to book an appointment I am unavailable until 8/16/200. If you can not wait until then you can be put on a waiting list for any possible cancellations

I called the salon and they recommended that I go to another salon!

This stylist over the last year has been trying to get on tv with a few realit based hair shows.. and most recentl the shop had an extreme make over by some show off of the Bravo network.

I emailed my old hair guy. I told him I think he hit it big time, and that I was recommended to go to another salon. I told him good luck and the word of your work it out big time. I wouldn't be back.

Was his email unprofessional

  1. You know I understand how you feel.  If you have been loyal to your hairdresser for some years and then all of the sudden they are unavailable to take you, it is frustrating as heck!  I don't care if Bravo, TLC or Sesame Street is recognizing him and his bangs are "blowing up" because he dyed Elmo's fur (LOL)!  You rely on him to get you to that level of hotness you have paid for over the years.  So when they say, 'oh yeah by the way, I'm so busy that the earliest you can see me is in a month?!"  I'm straight on that.

There isn't anything wrong with your email, if you really aren't going back ever.  It lets them know that you don't appreciate it and you've been a loyal customer  (and this dude hasn't even blown up officially yet?!)  Who knows, he may keep you in mind for cancellations??

Yeah, you may have to move on, for real.  It's sucks, I've done it, it's uncomfortable to find that hair stylist that does it for you, but you can find another one.  I did it.  My old hair dresser had a like a 2 1/2 month waiting list.... UH NO.  Sometimes you need to get in way before that.  If this isn't your thing... move on chica girl... You'll be fly anyway!!

To answer your question: Not really unprofessional, but irritating as heck! But the act itself of pushing you and others to the side is unprofessional.

  2. No. If he is booked, then he is booked. It sounds like he is a very popular stylist. Either find another salon, or make an appointment with him.

  3. It was very impersonal and not a very good thank you for all your years of business.even if it were just a message, it could've treated you a little better.

  4. It sounds like you are a looking for a smaller more "personal" salon and this salon just isn't that anymore.  There is nothing wrong with the email, a bit impersonal, but if he is busy he certainly cannot call all of his clients, so email was the most efficient way.  You have decide if you want to stay with him, for the great work he does, and then learn to deal with the craziness going to him may entail, or just switch to someone who can offer you a far more personal touch and start creating a new bond with that stylist.

  5. There's not a lot he can do if he's fully booked.  However, sending out an e-mail informing his popular clients of this is surely a good thing - it means he cares enough to let you know in advance to avoid disappointment.

I guess you think he's got some kind of regular TV show lined up, which is possible.  Maybe they are fliming in the actual salon and that's the reason he's booked up.

His prices may go up as his fame increases too, so another stylist sounds like you've made the best decision (unless you'd like to get on TV, in which case you could continue going to him!).
