I have had my hamster for 1 year.

She had babies last year because she got pregnant from the pet store. She lives alone with no other hamsters. She is the only hamster in our house. Her stomach has gotten huge over the last couple of weeks. When I say huge, I'm mean huge. It's not fat, I don't think, she exercises everyday in her wheel. She seems normal except when she tries to get places, she finds it hard to climb because she's so fat. It just seemed a little bloated at first, but now it's horribly big. Is it just fat? Or something else? I included 2 pictures below.

Thank you!

  1. see a vet, bloat means trouble inside. I had one die after her stomach bloated, she had a respiratory infection. Anti-biotics were too late.

  2. I'm so sorry. Your pet might not make it. It's deffinetly tumers. I would take it to the vet immediatley. Best of luck. In the near future try taking your pet to the vet once a year. It could be prevented.

  3. You need to get her to a vet ASAP. It could be a tumor growing inside of her or constipation.

To help against constipation, give foods like cucumber, spinach, yogurt, and leafy greens. Also a few licks of olive oil helps lube things up a bit, but you really do need to make sure she doesn' t have a tumor, so don't wait to take her to the vet. I have heard many stories recently with the same problem and the hamster didn't survive since it didn't get care fast enough.

  4. I can't view the pictures but I'd say you should probably take it to the vet

  5. Definitely you should take your pet to the vet right away!  No one here can say exactly what it is for sure, only the vet can examine it and tell you.  It's better to be safe than sorry.

  6. Take her to a vet immediately.  She is definitely not overweight.  It is either a tumor, internal parasites, or she is pregnant again.  Some animals (I'm not sure about hamsters) can keep having babies for years after mating just one time.  Hope she is okay.

  7. ew i doubt it is just being fat.....it looks like something more....take your little hammy to the vet!
