My Hamster is Sick! Does anyone know what it is that she has??

Alright, I have had my hamster Cha-Cha for 7 months. I think she may have been a year old when we got her. She runs on her wheel a lot. Lately, she had lost some weight, and is shedding a lot of fur.

I came home today to find her laying across her wheel, she never lays this way or in this place. She is breathing very heavily, and her stomach looks bloated. On top of that, it looks like her lower body is completly flat. Sometimes she will move to move her head, but she struggles even doing that.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! I just want to know what is wrong with her!

  3. VET VET VET! As quickly as you can! You may have a chance to save her!

Oh, and i really thought it was more like 2 years, 7 years is guinea pigs and rabbits. :P

    EDIT: Oh, i'm sorry.

  4. Are you sure she wasn't older? Hamsters only live for like 7 years.

With the fur shedding part, I thought perhaps she was just kind of molding. I know rabbits lose their fur at times.

But I'm not sure. Do you feed her Hartz? If so, she might have gotten sick from that food company.

  5. Ok, here's what might be the problem. Judging be the symptoms you gave, I'd say she either has:

Hair Loss:    Hair Loss • Mange • Mites • Ringworm

Weight Loss:    Diabetes • Endoparasites • Tyzzer's Disease

    Tires Easily:    Strokes

If you want some information on these, check out this site:

Hope this helps! You need to get your hamster to an exotics vet ASAP! Good luck.

    EDIT: I'm so sorry!
