  1. A 3 y/o hamster is close to death from old age. Do not clip him.

  2. lol i have the same problem there not hurting him! its ok if there nails r long cause they can file them down there selfs by digging in there bedding and ripping up there bed fluff! and after a few weeks when u tried that then in the evening when it cools down before it gets dark let him run around with u in the drive way. cause the rough ground won't hurt him but it will file his nails. WATCH OUT 4 CARS! and u can buy a play pin cage that u and him can sit in but he can't escape! give it a few weeks and if that doesn't work then take him 2 the vet 2 get them trimmed!

  3. Take him to the vet. They will do it for you.

  4. Hi there

Take him to your local vet.  It is only around £5 for them to do it, and it will be safer as when cutting hamsters nails they can bleed, best get the vet to do it.

    :)

  5. Letting him run around on a hard floor should help.  It's very hard to clip a hamsters claws; id be afraid to try.  if you clip too far he could bleed to death ;_;.  And even though I'm sure you'd be extra careful, he'd probably squirm A LOT.  Please don't do it yourself.  Maybe get the vet.  Just try letting him run on hard floor every day... unless they're too long.

  6. Take him to the vet, they should be able to do it. I would not recommend you doing it yourself. You're very lucky to have a 3 year old hamster, most don't live for more than 2 years.

  7. Hi Katrina,if you want to do it youself your going to have to know how to do it.it's very very reccommended to just go to a vet and let him/her clip your hamsters nails.its more safe.there are some stores that have animal nail clippers. But i would go to a vet.unless you know how to.Or get help from your friend if your friend knows how to?...Hope i helped and good luck!

  8. Take him to the vet.

  9. Katrina take him to the vet for this

  10. a good way to do it to trim a tiny bit off with nail scissors, but if your too scared to do that (like me) then line his wheel with a fine sand paper and this will gently file them down, thats what i do.

  11. It won't hurt him, their nails are just like human nails. They don't hurt when clipped, but it's best to take him to the vet, because they will be more experienced, do a better job, and have less of a chance of hurting him.

  12. 3 years?  That's really good.  It's getting old and you want it out of pain.. so don't clip them... Just take him to the vet and tell them the information and they should know if they are hurting him/her or not.  If they say so, please ask them to do it... Since they're nails are very tiny... it's easy to mistake a part of a nail for skin... so just let a professional do it...

  13. Hi. I have worked at a vet's so I know how to clip them but I would take him to your vets. I just gently cut mine with siccors.

  14. Do not attempt to do it yourself - hamsters have blood vesells that run through their claws and if you cut into that, the hamster will bleed to death.  Take him to the vet and let a professional who knows exactly what they are doing do it.
