Question:

My Hermit Crab is not in his shell!!!!?

I went to feed him today and he's not in his shell!! He's not in his cage either!! What happened?!? I haven't fed him in a few days but he still had food AND they can go 10 days without food and water with NO discomfort! Help!! Thanks.

  1. he's either dead or needs a new shell


  2. He is probably buried in a new shell and hermit crabs are nocturnal so he comes out while you are asleep and he eats and drinks... he should be ok

  3. he probably buried himself. Check the substate and remove him if you have other hermies, they might eat him. Sounds like hes molting. Put him in a separate tank (make sure you have food water and substrate, plus a few empty shells)

LOL you know they outgrow thare shells......but if he is not in the cage i'm sorry to say....he probs dead and curled up in his shell... give it another few days and if he dont show up crack the shell open carefully and see if he is still inside you may see him all crippled and dead or he will faww out and run about so you should give him a new shell......he may have also burried himself in the sediment....
