Ok, So I've Had My Horse Willy For About 10 Months, He's An 18 Year Old TB, And Is 17.1 Hands, Today I Went Up To The Barn To Say Hello To Both Him, And My Other Horse Cutie, I First Petted Willy, Which He Seemed Very Happy To See Me, He Was Whinnying And l*****g My Hands, Then I Said Hi To Cutie, Then Went Back To Say Hello To Willy Again, But When I Did, He Looked Like He Just Saw A Ghost! He Backed Up into The Wall Twice And Then Charged @ Me!! I Was Shocked, And The Rest Of The Day He Didn't Let Me Pet Him. Does Anyone Know Why He Did That???

  1. weird, check his eyes and maybe get a check up from the vet if he has a tumor or somethign anything could be going on here are a few simple test to help but stillg et a vet out if it happens over and over.

Get a reel with string and drop the reel holding the string if he watches it then his good.

Slowly get a non smelly treat (one that doesnt have a strong scent) and slowly rotate around the face from the side of the left eye all the way to the other side of the right eye.

It could jsut be a strange smell maybe or perhaps did u come towards him to fast? There could be a lot of reason just test some stuff about like his smelling, different clothes ect.

    Goodluck

  2. Reading that gave me a headache. Please don't use capitals where they aren't meant to be.

To answer the question your horse was being a brat and you let him get away with it. You need to be in control of your horse at all times and you can never let them away with something like that or they will keep doing it. Next time he does that give him a slap and let him no it's not on.

Why on earth do you have a horse that big? You are far too young to handle him.

  3. It might be that you have some sort of repulsive mannerism he is trying to repel. Given your nauseating and repulsive manner of writing with every word capitalized, if your physical mannerism is as repulsive as your writing mannerism then I can understand why your horse might tend to react that way toward you.

  4. were you wearing something different? or maybe he saw something scary behind you and associates it with you?

  5. he is just bein a brat.an you need to get out there with like a whip an when he does it just crack the whip.haha.he needs to know your the boss.and you cant be afraid of him cuz he'll know it.

    :D:D:D

  6. It sounds like a vision issue....if you were directly in front of him, he may not have seen you if you were in his blind spot, but caught your image in the periphery of his sight and it scared the daylights out of him.  If it happens again, it may be visual or neurological and should be investigated.  I think it's too soon to tell.  I don't get why he wouldn't let you pet him later though, so actually, maybe it's more??????????

  7. Check his eyes to see if there is anything obstructing his vision, such as tumors or cysts. One of our horses has a tumor on his iris blocking his pupil, so if you approach him from that side and don't let him know you're there, he WILL kick.

So if there is something in his eye, he could be seeing "ghosts" lol. If he continues to do it, have the vet out. If you do see something in his eye, the vet will need to come out to make sure it's benign.

  8. oh gosh i could barely read with it capitilized like that! maybe he's jelous?

    Anyway… now to the point…

Other answers are possible (diff colour colours, eye problem, something behind you, or eye vision)

It could be jealous of other horse- even though you went to it first? You could have the other horses smell on you and they could have had a blue overnight? any other smells really as well? You could have accidentally scared it appearing again and not know? It could have not known it was you? Horse could have just been fresh and wanted to play? Horses can also suffer from mental problems? He could be in a bad mood – did he have food might have been defending it? the horse could have even just been hungrey? He could have had a rough night – horse could have stirred him up and now he is a little confused and scared?

So many poss but don’t let this behaviour continue… try and reassure the horse and be aware and keep your eyes out for any triggers for this behaviour.

    Good luck and stay safe…
