We have been told we do a very nice job. I love weddings, getting to know the Bride and Groom, and their families. I like to make sure we do what they want, and get to know their tastes first. We are good with families, and making sure even Mom in Law is happy. We are personable and caring. We will charge $1250 for full day of photography at 2 locations, and give a DVD of all photos (400 ) to Bride when we are done. We also have a great favor idea involving having the couples wedding photo as a gift to every guest at the reception. What do you think?

  1. Well, when I was searching for a photographer, I searched through google. I found mine that way & their perfect =]

So what I say, is create a website, and put your name through google. ( you have to pay a certain amount to get on the first page)

You can go to bridal fairs and get your name out that way. Give out your business cards if anything. A lot of people book there.

    Good luck =)

  2.   Sounds pretty good what you are doing and the fact that you love it as well is a plus! When you start sending as much money as it takes to be competitive it is more that a Hobby. You should look into joining some organizations like AFWPI, WPPI, ABC, like those. They can help with some info, discounts, talking and a place for you to vent. Out of all AFWPI is the less expensive and will get you the most help. You can join user group for free to see if you like it. I just set it up so our members have not joined yet. Go to the web site (www.afwpi.com) and look at all of the perks that come along with membership. By the way great price to start with!

  3. maybe Craigslist?

  4. As long as you have the equipment and are prepared for the stress of capturing all the climatic moments of the big day, then good for you guys!

I would highly suggest using Craigslist. I know it sounds juvenile, but I also know that a lot of brides use them to find photographers they can afford. If you're just starting out, I would lower your prices a little to maybe $1000 for the day, and ask that each client, if happy with your work, submit a testimonial to you no later than 30 days after they receive everything from you, and also make them sign a release form so that you can use them online and for any marketing materials. Then you can start to build a client list and a portfolio and after a few years you can charge more.

I just know that as a bride, I wouldn't pay that much for photographers just starting out. I know photographers in Chicago who charge that much, and who have been doing it for four plus years.

But I've heard it's a very rewarding job. And how wonderful that you've found a career that you can share with your spouse? I wish you guys the best of luck!
