Okay, I won't tell you who thinks what, but one of us think that you should dust your furniture, before you vacuum that way whatever dust gets on the floor its vacuumed up. The other thinks you vacuum before you dust...

So which is it, do you dust before you vacuum or after?

Please help this is so small but I would just like to do one of those kinda I told you so things.. Its a wife thing!

  1. Dust before you vacuum--or as a total compromise..while you are vacuuming.

  2. I've always vacuumed before dusting.  I use a damp cloth for dusting so no dust is hitting the ground but the vacuum puts dust in the air.

hope it helps one of you :)

  3. dust before you vacuum

  4. dust, then vacuum. (you're right, not him)

  5. Dust first and wait for it to settle before vac.

  6. I always do floors last.  You always should clean from the top to the bottom.  Dust top shelves first then work our way down.  The floor is ALWAYS last!

  7. dust before you vaccum otherwise you would just have to vaccum again or the vaccuming from before would be worthless

  8. Always dust AFTER vacuuming because almost all vacuum cleaners expels some dust particles into the air. Now tell him you were right and make him take you out to dinner.

<edits> I see the majority says dust first, and I 100% disagree because of experience and having been a house keeper all my life. Think about it or better yet get a flashlight, turn the lights off and turn on the vacuum cleaner then shine your flashlight at the vacuum cleaner while it's running and you can see the dust particles flying out of it... and where will it go?? on your freshly dusted furniture.

    I rest my case.

  9. Some vacuums blow dust back in the air.  It then resettles back on furniture.  Better to dust after you vacuum.

  10. unless you have a hepa filter on your machine, it really doesn't matter, my wife dusts, then vacuums, the dust is still present if machine doesn't get all of the dust particles

  11. Dust FIRST then vacuum! Otherwise you get all the dust up off the floor and then put more dust on it again by dusting. Start from the top, go to the bottom. Floor last.

  12. dust first then vacuum

  13. Dust before you vaccum.

  14. why on earth would you spend so much energy on an inane subject.  apologize and move on.  in the future, agree to disagree.

  15. my mom always told me to dust after i vacuum cause that way the stuff that the vacuum blows out into the air gets dusted up. but if u have a h2o vac then it doesnt matter cause none of the stuff u vacuum is blown back into the air!

  16. Definately dust BEFORE you vaccuum, otherwise your doing double the work.

  17. omg you should totally dust first! that way, all the dust that come flying off your furniture lands on your carpet. So, then after you dust, you can go back over and vacuum so not only are your floors clean, you have also eliminated the dust from your house, not just spread it around. Let me guess, your husband thinks you should vacuum first? haha! You're right! Another victory for you!

  18. You vacuum AFTER you dust so you can suck up all of the stuff that got knocked onto the floor when you were dusting.

  19. I have an idea!!!   Honestly, I think you should always dust then vacuum however, I would like to save your marriage so.....how about you meet halfway.   Why don't you vacuum first, then dust........THEN, YOUR HUSBAND CAN VACUUM AGAIN.    Hee hee hee, my thinking is.....he just might agree with your cleaning habits so he won't have to do it!!!

  20. Dust first if you have a good vac. But dust 2nd if vac not so good

  21. What is this "dusting" and "vacuuming" about which you speak =)?

Seriously, though, for cleaning, I think a top down approach works best. Clean the highest thing first, such as the tops of bookshelves and cabinets, then work your way down.

  22. Dust first, vacuum second...

  23. DUST 1ST

  24. Dust first, clean from the top down is my rule anyway.

  25. You should dust before you vacuum. You should wait about 15 minutes for most of the dust to settle to the ground.

  26. its all a matter of opinion... personaly i think you should vacuum first and dust after because the dust is going in the air... not so much on the floor until it settles  but when its on the floor your not going to notice it.. its just a matter of whatever you feel comfortable with

  27. mmm,interesting.

Vacuum before you dust,a vacuum will create dust however microscopic. It's a very basic principle,do whatever creates dust then dust.

I work PT in a detail shop on cars and there is a set of rules we follow. Many may disagree but that's ok.Vac's are not perfect and do tend to create dust by particles not seen by the eye.

Do as you wish but many years following dust and dirt.

  28. well duh! Dont worry he is just a dumb man. Its a man thing. They think they are always right.

  29. Depends on your vacumme. If it is a bagless type then you can dust beforehand. If it is a bagged type I would vac afterwards. Either way it really doesn't matter because as soon as you walk on carpet you release dust back into the air.

You vac while he dust at the same time and there shouldn't be an arguement..haha.

  30. You should rinse & then repeat.
