I stay in Mumbai(Prabhadevi). Just one month ago i took net connection.I use Internet Explorer6. It takes me hours downloading anything. Wat should i do change the plan. But other plans are out of budget. This plan has free download scheme from 11pm-8am and data transfer limit of 370mb. When i use during the day, i use around 25mb of the 350mb just browsing through my mail. HOW SHOULD I INCREASE MY DOWNLOADING SPEED??? and AM I GETTING CHEATED BY MY ISP???

  1. Is your Internet connection - Dial Up, Broadband or Data Card?

Secondly, are u using it for PC or Laptop?

Look if u think, by getting such speeds at cheap prices, you are saving money, then its actually the other way around. What you may be losing on would be valuable time, electricity bills.

I have been using speeds from as low as 32 KBPS (3 KB) in 1998 to 256 KBPS (25KB) since 2006. Going back to those speeds, is umimaginable for me.

2MB/s (200KB, I presume) is the maximum. Check what is minimum?

People abroad, get actual speeds of (8000 KB plus)

  2. Yes you are being cheated by your scamster ISP. Since the package is a limited plan you will get a fair 2mbps during the day. And where is in night since it gets unlimited they decrease the alloted bandwidth to 40kbps. thats why you get (5 kBps)

Note that kBps and kbps is different.

    1 kBps = 8 kbps

Your download speed is calculated in kBps so 5 kBps = 5 x 8 = 40kbps which is minimum as per what they promised.. But they will tweak the bandwidth in such a way that you will never get 2mbps during nights. Thats how they cheat us fairly.

  3. Check the ISP . I think they do not offer dedicated line. Check your bandwidth by googling for "bandwidth tester" and then complain to your ISP regarding the speed.
