We just hired a new employee who is also Indian. He wears the same string around his wrist. Does anyone know if this is culturally significant?

  1. Its Indian Jewelry, she definitely purchased it from India. Their Jewelry is a lot different than that we have in America, it is shaped differently. Sometimes it is called a "mala". I think the red string is a string worn in Hindu religion.

  2. Maybe its a indian good luck charm or a medical alert bracelet

  3. Are they hindu? because they usually tie those around their wrist during morning prayers! or if hes punjabi, then he just recently went to a wedding lol!

  4. It is part of a celebration to tie one sibling to another. Typically opposite s*x siblings. You can read all about it here and you can even see a picture of the bracelet. Obviously they will vary from region to region but the significance is the same. The brother is swearing his protection of the sister. It's sweet really.
