My Ipod nao turns on and charges, but the buttons do not work.?

I found my old Ipod in my draw. I thought i'd give it a try and see if it works. I plugged it into my laptop to charge it up and it started to charge. After a short while it turned on. I tryed to go to the music but the buttons wouldn't work. The hol button works and hold is not on. I don't understand. Any one know how I might be able to fix it? Too poor to buy a new one.

try resetting it, hold the center and menu button for about 60 seconds.
