would anyone be able to tell me what to do to stop this? What should I use? I can buy paint from the body shop, but cannot afford to have them do it at this time. Any and all help is appreciated.

  1. try carwell.com for rust treatment.  it is a very thin fluid they spray under the car and in the interior body panels.

it will seep into every crack and creavice to displace moisture and stop rust.

  2. as you are doing the above also use a paint that(stops) the rust..just paint alone may not because you cant get all the rust off in many areas. it changes the chemical composition of the rust and stops it.  You can do it right now to stop progession..then make it pretty at later date..comes clear and is sold at home depot and other places that sell spray paint in cans..cost 5 bucks...use tape to mask of area  for neater look.  the rust will turn black as it changes.. i have used i couple old cars and it works

  3. If  you can not afford to fix properly, sand the spot to get rust off and just put some kind of paint or primer or something like that on it. You have to keep air off of the spot.
