  1. Am I on Candid Camera or what? If the questioner's son really is a Witness, why is she asking the public if we oberve a Sabbath? Has her son stopped talking to her?

The Sabbath is not mandatory for Christians. If one wants to observe a personal sabbath, it's okay.

If my kids are doing something that I don't understand, I'll ask them, not strangers.

  2. The short answer: No

    The long and official answer:

"After Jesus’ death, his apostles at no time commanded Sabbath observance. The Sabbath was not included as a Christian requirement at Acts 15:28, 29, or later. Nor did they institute a new sabbath, a “day of the Lord.” Even though Jesus was resurrected on the day now called Sunday, nowhere does the Bible indicate that this day of his resurrection should be commemorated as a “new” sabbath or in any other way. First Corinthians 16:2 and Acts 20:7 have been appealed to by some as a basis for observing Sunday as a sabbath. However, the former text merely indicates that Paul instructed Christians to lay aside in their homes for their needy brothers at Jerusalem a certain amount each first day of the week. The money was not to be turned in at their place of meeting but was to be retained until Paul’s arrival. As for the latter text, it was only logical that Paul would meet with the brothers in Troas on the first day of the week, since he was leaving the very next day." (Insight on the Scriptures Vol. 2 pp. 830-833)

"That sabbath observance was not obligatory upon early Christians can be seen from Romans 14:5: “One man judges one day as above another; another man judges one day as all others; let each man be fully convinced in his own mind.” The apostle Paul could not have put the matter this way if Christians were still bound by the Decalogue. In this regard it is indeed of interest that such early church “fathers” as Justin Martyr and Tertullian put sabbathkeeping in the same class as circumcision." (Awake! 11/22, 1972 pp. 5-8)

"Very clearly the Scriptures state that God through Christ made an end to the Law. (Eph. 2:14-18; Col. 2:13, 14) Some persons claim that God made an end only to the so-called ceremonial law, but not to the Decalogue. But there is no Scriptural warrant for such a separation. In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus quoted from both the Decalogue and the ceremonial features of the Law and made no distinction between them.—Matt. 5:21-42." (Awake!, 11/22, 1972 pp. 5-8)

    =Edit=

    "how do you explain that?"

    Quite simply.

"Ex. 31:16, 17: “The sons of Israel must keep the sabbath, so as to carry out the sabbath during their generations. It is a covenant to time indefinite [“a perpetual covenant,” RS]. Between me and the sons of Israel it is a sign to time indefinite.” (Notice that sabbath observance was a sign between Jehovah and Israel; this would not be the case if everyone else were also obligated to keep the Sabbath. The Hebrew word rendered “perpetual” in RS is ‛oh·lam′, which basically means a period of time that, from the standpoint of the present, is indefinite or hidden from sight but of long duration. That can mean forever, but not necessarily so. At Numbers 25:13 the same Hebrew word is applied to the priesthood, which later ended, according to Hebrews 7:12.)"

  3. Jesus was the fulfillment of the Law !

  4. No. We never keeps Sabbath.

  5. Funny how some religions just pick out a few of the 613 rules and ordinances of the old testament to follow, like keeping the sabbath and tithing, but don't bother with the rest. Jesus came to change all those works of the law, and to give us salvation through grace.

  6. They never used to before. It is probably something they do now in light of what other christian groups are comming up with while investigating what the scriptures say. They used to quote Paul's letters to romans or hebrews, that show that "we are not under law".

The scriptures say: (John 5:16-18)  And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work. For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

So, you can see He DID work on sabbbath (He was The Lord of the Sabbath, of course) But He broke not the Law. He did an act of mercy during Sabbath. Mercy before judgement.

    We could do the same.

  7. Saturday is Jewish Sabboath. As such Jehovah's witnesses are "winesses" of Jehovah they must be keeping/believing in Sabbath. Unfortunately, they cannot understand that Jesus is Emmanuel, GOD with us.

    They think in,

    John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

"with" shows two different persons but they forget that when I type this message with my hands does not make my hands seperate from me though in a way they are different. Same way, GOD and Jesus are same but to human perception they look different.

    Here is a classic work

which does notrequire  at all any scholarly knowledge and understanding, but needs open heart and open mind to see the truth revealed.

  8. They do not have a Sabbath, they regard all days as holy.

There are five meetings each week.

    Public Talk - Usually Sunday

Watchtower Study - After Public Talk Typically

Theocratic Ministry School - Usually a weekday evening

Service Meeting - Usually following TMS

Book Study - During week to study watchtower publications

What he told you technically isn't a lie, but nor is it exactly the whole truth.

I included the pages about the JW at RT.org for your reading, I marked which one contains the information you're talking about.

  9. Hi,

My husband is Jewish and I am Italian but by nationality, we are both Jehovah's Witnesses. To keep it simple, Jehovah's witnesses do not keep the Sabbath. The old/laws testament only regarded the sabbath. We don't follow that now. We regularly meet on Sundays for our Congregations Public talk and watchtower study and some go out in the door to door ministry after the meeting. Why not got to the meeting with your son to learn more. A Jehovah's witnesses from your local Kingdom Hall would be happy to explain further our beliefs.

  10. You CAN keep the Sabbath, but the Jehovah's Witnesses believe that after Jesus' sacrifice we're no longer under the laws of the Old Testament and therefore do not have to keep the Sabbath.

You don't have to, but you can.

  11. I have been around the Watchtower Organization since 1968 and have never heard of any JWs that kept the Sabbath.  Well, except for my keeping my Black Sabbath albums after I was told to burn them to get rid of the demons that live within the grooves! LOL

But all kidding aside, I never heard of any JWs keeping the Sabbath.

  12. The true Sabbath is Saturday, the day the Jews keep.  In all my readings of the New Testament, I have never read a passage that commanded or suggested keeping any sabbath.  Also, the Jewish Sabbath was a spiritual bond between their God and their people, just like circumcision was a physical bond.

  13. Should Christians Observe a Day of Rest?

    Sure they can.

Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic Law perfectly.

Sabbath was part of the Old Law.

We are under a new covenant...The Messianic Covenant...if we revert back we would be saying that the New Covenant wasn't complete or good enough.

So sure if you wish to have a day of rest by all means rest..but to observe the old Sabbath law we would be regressing.

Our new command is simple....Love Jehovah with all your heart and strength and Love your neighbor as yourself.

  14. Jesus was the end of the law.....The "Sabbath" was a custom that was practiced REGULARLY during the days of the mosaic law

  15. Since active JW's spend most of their time preaching on Saturdays and Sundays, and my brother and I were forced to do our garden and housework on both of those days, I can confidently tell you that JW's do not celebrate the sabbath, it would interfere with their field service time sheets, and then they would have nothing to talk about at conventions, nothing gets the crowds going like increased numbers of baptism and larger field service hours, I also was told that a few sisters in my ex-congregation used to fast and meditate, so who knows?  Maybe your son was making a comment about something he was told or had observed...

  16. Yes they love sabbaths and baths and carrots : )
