My Johnson 70hp hydraulic trim will only go down not up?

my power lift goes vertical and down but I have to lift it up by hand.. it worked a few times when I got it but has stoped now.. it makes no noise when I flip the switce for up.. I have checked the fuses and wiring is intact. The outboard ia a 1976 so I a asumeing the power lift is as old..

  1. If you hear no noise when you flip the switch it's either the solenoid or the trim motor. If you have power down and you hear the motor in the down position, it's the up solenoid


  2. It sounds like the solenoid for up is bad or not getting power. first check and make sure all electrical connections are clean and tight. When you hit the up switch make sure the up solenoid is getting power. If it is and not even clicking then it is bad.

  3. Check the hydraulic oil. Should be a round s***w and will take a flat head screwdriver. Good luck.

  4. if you don't here a clicking at your tilt trim solinoids on the up, then it is a solinoid, if you do, then it is the motor. check your grounds at the tilt trim motor (these will corode) and then try again. Hope for your sake it is either the solinoid or the wiring, the motors are pricy...
