I've had my Anerythristic Corn for about a month now and he was shedding at the time that I got him. But now, only four weeks later, he is showing many of the signs of shedding again, (bright blue eyes, slower movement etc.)

Why is this? I thought that Corn Snakes were supposed to shed every seven weeks. Please help!

Thank you in advance for any answers! :)

  1. he is just growing fast. it shows your doing a good job. snakes dont shed on a schedule, they shed depending on growth rates.

    infection???? thats a new one.

  2. a lot of things can affect the shedding cycle of a snake.  Humidity, stress, age, temperature, season etc.

If he he appears healthy, is feeding, and the shed is normal\intact then I would just keep an eye (and make note) on him and his subsequent sheds.  Younger snakes shed more often as they are growing faster.

But you are right to be attentive to this matter as infection can also be a cause of more rapid shedding.  I am not sure where you got your snake, but if it was at a pet store then perhaps his previous shed cycle was relatively long due to the all-to-often suboptimal conditions in most pet stores...humidity, temp, overcrowding etc.  if this caused the length of time for the shed to finish, then maybe it has indeed been 6-7 weeks since his shed began last time.  on the other hand, these conditions can also put the snakes at increased risk of infection.  so, like i said - keep an eye on him!

hope that helps!  congrats on your new friend:-)
