  1. You are among the fortunate ones whose kitty uses the litter box without a problem. Would you prefer he poops on the floor?

That's the kind of problem you are setting yourself up for by making his litter box experience problematic. Don't do it. You're not his mama. She was the only one who could teach him to cover it.

One of my cats never covers her poo either. It just sits there and stinks until I clean it up. Still beats getting a cat that poos on the carpet!

  2. My cat used to do that when no one was watching.

    Maybe he's just lazy.

  3. Some do some don't. You are not the momma cat and cannot train him. If it really bothers you that much scoop more often or get an electric self cleaning litter box.

  4. Some kitties just never do it. Maybe you should try a finer (more small) litter and see what he does.

  5. You really can't train a cat....you will just have to clean the litter box more often...or get an enclosed litterbox

  6. Your kitten has to learn that the litter tray is the only place in which it is allowed to wet or mess. So if it begins to puddle or mess anywhere else, pick it up at once. Hiss, and take it to the tray.

If it has already made a mess, after washing the dirty place, it is a good idea to spray it with vinegar to cover up any smell, or the kitten will go back and use it again.

If you want your kitten to wet and mess outdoors when it is older, mix earth with the cat litter and keep the tray by the garden door. When your kitten is allowed out on its own, move the litter tray outside, and keep it there until the kitten finds places in the garden to use instead.
