My Kenmore Elite washing machine wont start!?

Question

I have a Kenmore Elite Washing machine. I set is on regular wash and it fills with water without spinning. I have to SLAM the machine lid VERY hard to get it to start. Sometimes with no results... The machine is only 2 years old, and i dont wanna replace it since it still works. Anyone know how i might fix it, or at least start it without busting my wrist slamming the lid for 5 minutes straight?

Sounds like the lid switch is the problem. If the lid switch is not telling the timer the lid is closed, it will not operate. Its a pretty easy repair and should not cost you more than $100 to fix it if the lid switch needs replacing. It may also indicate a loose wire. The act of slamming the lid might make the proper electrical connection. Also that should not cost alot.

i see this problem all the time  on the left side of the lid there are two screws. the screws are loose not allowing the hinge to make contact with the lid switch. tighten the screws and it will work. hope this helps
