I know he KNOWS how but he won't ever do it right. He will go 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10 and the next day it will be 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10 and somedays he just totally goes off and puts like 18 instead of 8. Then eveyone once in awhile he will do it right, but then won't do it right again

We have tried so many things to teach him from songs, to games, to bribes even (saying if he counts to 10 he can play ToonTown.)

He gets me so aggrevated by acting this way. I need to know what to do. He HAS to know this.

  1. try food or flash cards

  2. Don't force it.  If he miss counts,

    don't panic.  Try the counting

    game day after tomorrow.

    He'll learn.  Give him little

    space.

  3. don't worry right now because he's just a little kid... Maybe try calling his mom or dad 2 work  with him at home just for a little extra pratice

  4. when i learned how to count to 100 i always skipped the 70's (guess i didn't like the number or something)  but after awhile I could count just fine and I'm still going strong!!!

don't worry about it, if you know that he knows how to do it, don't focus on it, teach him something else, like how to count in a different language.

  5. Get his favorite candy or small food. Say that he can only eat them if he counts correctly.

When he says "one", give him one. When he says "two", give him a second one, etc., until you've given him all ten.

  6. He will recite them when he is ready to.  He will do it in kindergarten as they teach him along with the other kids.  It sounds to me like you are drilling him too much and maybe he is getting sick of it and just messing up on purpose.  Leave him alone and let him learn  it in kindergarten.  It sounds like he already knows them though and is just giving you a hard time.

  7. How about trying to get him counting with objects... like get 10 straws and then put a certain number of straws out and ask him how many... then eventually put them in order.. so go 1 straw, then 2, and progress to 10. then after, tell him that he just counted to 10 and ask him to do it again.

also, if you think he can do it but he won't... offer some sort of reward... that way he'll do it instead of trying to frustrate you.. also on the flukes that he does do it right, reward him so he understands that what he just did is good.

    Hope this helped :)

  8. He is a kindergartner..he will learn it..he probably already knows and being like most kids his age he is just playing...

  9. Stop getting agravated.  He knows his numbers he's just sick and tired of having to recite them over and over and over.  Give the kid a break.  Even my daughter who has an IQ of 165 refused to say the letter J when reciting the alphabet on her own.  She could do the "ABC Song" forwards and backwards perfectly, she could say the alphabet with her preschool class but when asked to say the alphabet on her own she always left out the letter J.  One day the Preschool teacher asked her why she was so good at it with the class and when singing the song but didn't say the letter J when she was by her self.  Her answer was very simple and logical.  "I don't like the letter J".
