Question:

My Kitten has not eaten yet?

My boyfriend brought home a kitten yesterday. He is very playful and like to cuddle, purr and meow... But he's teeny tiny (he like to climb into my size 5 shoes) and he hasn't eaten, drank water or used the litter box yet.

The family we got him from said he was eating crushed up, wet kitten food. But we can't get him to. It's only been 18 hours, but I'm worried. He wouldn't even eat tuna. what can we do?

  1. Keep trying and watch him closely.  If he goes too long, he could go into hypoglycemic shock.  You may want to call your vet and pick up some nutri-cal to get him going.  Better safe than sorry, 18hours is a bit long for a kitten in my opinion.  I would just place a call to be safe.

    Good Luck  :)

  2. I would just continue to leave it out and make sure he is okay. I would also make sure you try both wet and dry food. If you leave wet food out too long sometimes they will not eat it. Science-Diet is the dry food that we use for our cats and it works great.

  3. have you tried moistening the food wit a drop of water?

  4. He maybe still trying to coup with the change, this is normal.  When I got my kitten it took him about 2 days to finally eat.  He just needs to adjust and he will be fine.

We got out kitten from the humane society, and they ate off of little paper plates.  I was using a bowl, and he didnt know what the bowl was.  Once I put the little paper plate down he ate.  Cat's are very intellegant so if you try and change there routine it may be hard for them to adjust.  They are now 2 years old and I still have to feed them on the paper plate or they will not eat.

  5. maybe he is just adapting to the new change

just leave the food out and chek to see if any of it has been eaten in the morning
