We just adopted a kitten this past weekend. She is 12 weeks old and was recently spayed before we adopted her. We had her declawed yesterday and this morning she peed on my couch. I cleaned it really good but when we got home this evening she had done it again in the same spot. Can some please help me?

  1. Good grief.  Babies scratch themselves, but no one chops off their fingers to

prevent it from happening.  They do clip their nails though.  Simple procedure.

No surgery required.  The same applies to cats.  Clip their nails.  Problem

    solved.

Would you trade freedom for security? They have.

Losing ones freedom is a bigger price to pay than losing ones claws. Think

    about it.

im sorry but if some one declawed me i more than pee on the setee..

  2. Just give her some time- it may be that the medications that they gave her are still wearing off- she may be disoriented for a couple days- Jeez   I didn't know that there were still people out there that declawed their cats!!!  It is such a cruel thing to do to them.  good luck.

  3. I'm not going to chastise you for declawing your cat because at least you care enough to give her a loving home, as well as having her spayed to prevent unwanted litters.

Here is what I would do.

First, make certain that her litter is soft, because her paws hurt right now and digging in the litter hurts bad. Switch to scoop-able litter and shred some newspaper on top of the litter to make it softer, and change it often!

Second, place the litter box in a small area, preferably a bathroom and keep the kitten in the bathroom overnight. During the day, pick her up and place her in the box often, even if she just jumps out. But make sure you shut her in the bathroom at night. After a few days she will relearn where the litter box is and her paws should start feeling alittle better.

Oh, and until then, keep her away from the couch so she doesn't go back to that spot. Good luck!

  4. I have one that will pee on my bed if she is mad at me. I have resorted to putting the huge gray garbage bags on the sofa and loveseat when I'm not at home and it seems to have worked, plus I keep the bedroom doors closed. You could also use vinegar and water to clean the spot, but the smell will come back so use the Renuzit Fabric sprays until the smell fades.

  5. I'm sorry your kitten is peeing on your couch.  she may have picked up UTI or she may be in incredible pain from being declawed which is like removing your nail to the first joint knuckle.  does the place you adopted her from know you were going to declaw?  Most rescues I know would never adopt out to a family that intended on doing this.  Please make sure she never gets out as she will be unable to defend herself from other cats.  Your best bet is to have a urine sample taken to determine if she as a UTI.

  6. What do you have in the litter box? Have you changed it to what litter that the vet recommends? I believe the best litter in the litter box is oats after getting a cat declawed. If you do not have oats in the litter box, then it likely pains her too much to use it. I believe it's recommended to use only oats in the box for the first few weeks after getting declawed.

Animals use towels, furniture etc when their box is too painful, too stinky, or too dirty. I don't know about you but I won't use a toliet/bathroom that is disgusting.

My guess is the litter you are using is hurting her paws and so she held it until she couldnt hold it any longer and thought the couch seemed to be a nice soft spot to pee.

If you do have oats in the box, then I recommend calling the vet as you just had her declawed and seeing what they recommend.

  7. Chances are she's not a happy kitty -- her paws hurt, and jumping off the couch probably didn't seem like something she wanted to do yesterday.

She's probably peeing there again because it smells like pee now and that signals her that it's an okay place to pee.  There are some very good enzymatic cleaners available that might help -- start with Nature's Miracle.

And next time you get a cat, try not to declaw it.  They amputate the whole top knuckle of their toes.  It's really hard on your cat when you do it.

I've had cats that were declawed,  and they can be wonderful indoor pets, but now that I know what I did to them I'll never do it again.

  8. why don't you just put the litter box in that spot on the couch?

if you don't like the looks of the litter box you could just pour litter on the couch
