Screen stays black when you turn the unit on, and white light power indicator flashes when the unit is powered on, then turns solid white after being on for a couple of seconds.

  1. it depends were u take ur tv to repair i guess that the price to get it repaired is about $500 and down :)

  2. i know it costs quite a lot since i recently bought a new tv if i was u i would look at new tvs or send ur tv bck and get a refund.

  3. my LG 42pxr4-za (42 inch plasma) failed 13 months after it was purchased.

good sound but no picture-the board required would have cost £400+vat so they wrote it off.

with yours it sounds like the power supply unit has gone down.

luckily i purchased the extended warranty so they sent me (not without much argument) a new set.

for the answerer above: plasma sets do not incorperate backlights-LCD's do however.

  4. Depends where you got it from and when but there is a little known piece of UK consumer law that states that an electrical item (such as TV, stereo etc) should perform adequately for 7 years. If it does not, you can go back to the retailer and it is their responsibility to either pay for the repair or replace the unit. I only know this because a friend of mine took a 4 year old TV back to Dixons, explained this and they paid for a repairman to visit and then for a new telly because it was not repairable.

    So, in short, £0.00  :-)

Edit: Please ignore the retail manager. 1) It's not in his interest to agree with the above. 2) The statement about it being a "known manufacturer fault" is kind of true, but the retailer has to PROVE that it is not, therefore, on the whole, the retailer will replace the item and get the manufacturer to reimburse them. 3) Before you do anything else, give it a go, as I stated above, I've seen it happen.

  5. Sounds like a backlight failure but it could be something worse. If this is all it is, it shouldn't be too far into 3 figures for a repair. Ring round for some quotes.

To respond to the previous answer of the legislation relating to 7 year old appliances, I am afraid, as an expert in retail law, that you are mistaken. This law is only quotable in the event of a known problem being caused by a fault in the manufacturing or quality control process. If it is the failure of a consumable part, such as a backlight, it's called tough luck. Would you take your new car back to the garage after 6 years and complain it needs new tyres?

  6. depends on where you are, who you purchased from. Assuming that it is out of manufacturer warranty and you did not purchase a protection plan i would espect to pay $300 on the low end and get a new tv on the other end, lol. Go to lge.com and support. There should be a troubleshoot that will tell you what the blink patter of the light is trying to tell you. if its the pannel, the repair cost would start over a grand and honestly, a new 42 plasma might cost you 900 to 1100.
